Jim Harter brings a unique background to the Sotheby’s team, with a wealth of experience in journalism, public relations and college basketball coaching.

Jim was the head men’s basketball coach at Pace University for 16 years, the longest tenure of any coach in the school’s history, and made multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. He was also an assistant coach at the University of Alabama-Birmingham and Tulane and experienced March Madness with both schools.

Jim’s path to a career in basketball was not an unusual one, as his father, Dick Harter, was a long-time college coach before a long career in the NBA. He was Pat Riley’s top assistant with the New York Knicks during their historic run to the NBA Finals against the Houston Rockets in 1994.

In the past few decades, Jim also has been a successful businessman in Westchester County New York, running several basketball ventures. One of his camps earned him “Best of Westchester,” in Westchester Magazine.

Before coaching, Jim worked as a public relations executive in the NBA office under David Stern and was a sports writer at the Palm Beach Post. A graduate of the University of Delaware, Jim was a linebacker for the Blue Hens’ 1979 National Championship team and played for Hall of Fame Coach Tubby Raymond.

Jim’s tireless efforts as a recruiter and deal closer at Pace University make for a natural fit in real estate. Jim also has a unique knowledge of residential investment properties, with a successful business of his own in the Berkshires in Massachusetts.

His experience and skills allow him to find the best possible deals for clients, selling and / or buying homes.
